The 1949 Society

Leave a Legacy to the ATA

In 2016, the ATA formed The 1949 Society to recognize those who included the association in their will. Membership in The 1949 Society is open to individuals who bequeath their philatelic estates to ATA, or have made a provision in their will in support of the American Topical Association. The society was named for the year of ATA’s founding.

It is simple to include ATA in your estate plan. If you already have a will, you can add a codicil—a simple document that becomes part of your will. You can request that your attorney prepare a codicil; there may be a minimal charge of about $100. Once the codicil has been signed and witnessed, it becomes part of your will. When that is done, you can notify Jennifer Miller, executive director, who will add your name to the rolls of The 1949 Society.

A bequest of a stamp collection may be appreciated by heirs who would be faced with the task of disposing of it. You might also consider a donation of stock, cash or other assets. ATA recently received a bequest, which was put into a conservative mutual fund where it will earn interest and help insure the future of ATA.

Membership in The 1949 Society is a wonderful way to remember and celebrate the fun of topical collecting and the many friendships we make.
