It has been a while since ATA has had a show in the Western part of the country. We have many members in the Western states, and that is why we are especially delighted that ATA and our partners, APS and AFDCS, are holding the nation’s largest philatelic event of the year in Sacramento.
We hope you’ll make plans now to join us for the show August 25-28, with ATA all-day tour following on Monday, August 29. The show will be held in the newly renovated SAFE Credit Union Convention Center in downtown Sacramento, and will include 100+ dealers, 900+ frames of exhibits, an auction and many seminars and meetings.
The ATA show committee, led by show manager Bill DeWitt, is busy planning a variety of programs and meetings, as well as social gatherings. We’ll continue some ATA traditions: the President’s Reception on Friday evening and a relaxing tour following the bustle of the show. The annual meeting on Friday afternoon is a wonderful celebration of ATA members and their achievements. Our top exhibiting awards and the Distinguished Topical Philatelist award will be presented at the banquet on Saturday evening.
The show hotel is the Sheraton Grand Sacramento, just across the street from the convention center. The hotel is located in the historic Public Market building. A modern hotel has incorporated the grand old structure in its design. You are urged to make your hotel reservation NOW, as rooms sell out quickly at an event of this size.
Also, keep in mind that the deadline to request a society/study unit booth and seminar/meeting space is April 30. See the APS website at stamps.org to do so. The deadline to enter a competitive exhibit is May 15; May 1 for literature exhibits.
Admission is free, but you must register. You can conveniently register online now at the APS website, and avoid crowds at the registration desk when you arrive.
With 250 days a year of sunshine, Sacramento is a popular tourism destination. It is the state capital and has a rich history, including its prominence in California’s Gold Rush in 1848. From the show venue, you can easily walk to the capitol and stroll around the grounds.
The hotel and convention center are located 12 miles from the Sacramento International Airport, just a 15-minute cab ride. With more than 300 restaurants within walking distance, you can choose most any cuisine and price range.
We hope you’ll make plans to participate in the grandest philatelic event in 2022!
