The Most Beautiful Bridge in Paris
Tom Broadhead
Thursday, October 8, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. (EDT)
The Seine River, flowing through the French capital, is crossed by many bridges exhibiting striking architecture and dating for more than 300 years. This talk, from a traveler’s and philatelist’s perspective, reviews depictions of Paris bridges on stamps and highlights the most beautiful of all – the Alexander III bridge.
Tom Broadhead is 2nd Vice President of ATA and has been an avid stamp collector for more than 60 years. Although Tom’s primary collecting interest is the 20th century postal history of France, he is an ardent champion of the study of images on stamps and how they reflect the history and culture of their issuing nations. A professor of geology at The University of Tennessee, Tom enjoys occasionally teaching a seminar on the culture of stamps for honors students and giving lectures on stamp topics in the honors lecture series. He is active in the Knoxville Philatelic Society, where he has been newsletter editor for 15 years. http://knoxstamps.com. You can reach him at broadhea@utk.edu.
