Halley's Comet visited Earth in 1066 and its appearance is depicted on the Bayeux Tapestry. In 1986 when it last flew by, several countries issued stamps and a couple of pictorial cancellations that showed that scene from the tapestry. In addition to the Norman conquest of Britain, there are other interesting Halley's comet stories, notably the birth and death of Mark Twain. It's due back in 2062 - stay tuned!
