Going Postal: Dinosaurs on Stamps
with Jon Noad
Tuesday, April 15, 7:00 p.m. Eastern via Zoom
Thematic stamp collecting is highly personal and allows you to collect whatever you want. Jon has been fascinated by dinosaurs ever since he was given his first Dinosaur book at six years old. In this presentation, Jon will explain how his collection of dinosaurs on stamps has evolved, explore the breadth of material available to the collector and look at the history of dinosaurs on stamps, including the world’s oldest postal dinosaur. Finally, he will show off some stunning dinosaur related postal items, most within reach (financially) of amateur collectors and feature some of the more embarrassing issues.
Jon Noad graduated in 1985 and started working as a mining geologist in South Africa. He moved back to the UK to work in marine cable laying and completed a part time Masters project in Dinosaur Provincial Park in Alberta. This led to a PhD. in eastern Borneo after which he spent 20 years working in oil and gas in the Netherlands, Middle East, Canada and Colombia. He joined Stantec as a qualified Palaeontologist in 2022 and now undertakes site monitoring for new pipelines and construction projects, in addition to teaching several courses, field trips and core workshops for industry and universities each year. Jon is a keen runner and all three of his children have dinosaur middle names.
